CICMHE Design Competition

By Alex Batty, MHI Marketing Communications Coordinator |@mhi_alex

Every year, the College Industry Council on Material Handling Education (CICMHE) and the Order Fulfillment Solutions Council of MHI host a design competition, with the idea of getting students involved in solving material handling problems. Well, this post has got information on both this year’s winners (huzzah!) and the new competition case overview for 2016/2017.

For the 2015/2016 competition, the case study was provided by Fortna and teams then designed a solution that was evaluated by seven independent judges from industry and academia.

First place was awarded to a team from Montana State University, consisting of team members Kayley Gaustad, Lin Li, Sarah Linkenhoker, and Ross Wolfe led by advisor Durward Sobek. The prize amounts to $2,000 split among the team and $500 for the department.

The 2016/2017 design competition case overview and judging criteria files are now available at http://www.mhi.org/cicmhe/competition. The Case Study is about Fresh Food Now and their warehouse is at 90% capacity, creating inefficiencies, and needs a new facility designed.
