Amazon receives exemption from FAA for new drone tests

The Federal Aviation Administration recently granted an exemption for Amazon to test delivery drones outdoors.

Amazon must keep flights at an altitude of no more than 400 feet and no faster than 100 miles per hour.

Amazon is testing the use of drones to deliver packages to its customers over distances of 10 miles or more, which would require drones to travel autonomously while equipped with technology to avoid collisions with other aircraft.

Driverless vehicles and drones are among the transformational supply chain technologies identified in the 2015 Annual Industry Report recently released by MHI. Download the complete report.
