Building Cultures and Teams that Embrace Innovation
As more organizations work toward achieving a digital supply chain — investing heavily in a range of technologies (cloud computing, predictive analytics, artificial intelligence, machine learning, Internet of Things, and more) to keep pace with customer expectations, gain competitive advantage, position themselves for the future, and attract talent — the ongoing challenges of the existing skills gap continue to hamper progress. This was among the findings of the 2020 MHI Annual Industry Report, released in March.
Key to achieving digital supply chain success — and to thriving in today’s environment of high-speed technological evolution — is a company’s ability to connect talent and technology. And that requires not only a cultural mindset of innovation, but also a toolkit of workforce strategies that addresses the acquisition of the skillsets needed to fully maximize the investment in digital supply chain technologies. Yet, according to research from Gartner, it’s easier for companies to fund such investments than it is to find the talent necessary to support them.
As George Prest, CEO of MHI puts it, “Workforce challenges cannot be solved without building and maintaining a culture of innovation and technology within your organization. Talent and technology are fundamentally linked together in the success of future supply chains.”
To that end, MHI Solutions asked four experts to share best practices for supply chains seeking to create a culture that supports innovative thinking; hire staffers with the needed technological skillsets; manage and support the diverse abilities of multiple generations currently in the workforce; and reskill existing personnel with targeted training programs.
