Dematic Jumps to Help Customer Protect Their Front-Line Employees From COVID-19

MHI member companies are among the leading suppliers in manufacturing and supply chain and with the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, many of these companies have been doing amazing things to better the safety of our citizens and the security of our economy. 

This week we spoke with MHI member company Dematic about their recent software initiative and how this is making a difference in the lives of others and in the fight against the spread of COVID-19.

Dematic was approached by one of their online grocery customers with a social distancing issue. The customer needed a software solution that enabled social distancing to ensure the health and safety of their front-line employees. With the highly contagious nature of COVID-19, Dematic knew it was imperative to act fast. The company looked at existing system functions and came up with ways of adapting to provide a minimum risk and fast-to-market solution. They took the best solutions back to the customer to review and decide, all within one working day.

The software update was developed by software engineers from DAI ― a UK-based company acquired by Dematic in February 2020 that specializes in logistics software solutions. It took the team less than three days to implement across the grocer’s entire network.

The solution is currently in 250+ stores, protecting the health and safety of hundreds of employees on the front lines. The new feature can be ‘switched off’ when conditions return to normal.

Supporting customers by working collaboratively with them is a Dematic hallmark.
