Donated Equipment Gives High School, Community College Students Hands-On Experience

MHI—along with the Material Handling Equipment Distributors Association (MHEDA)—works closely with schools throughout the U.S. to support education in material handling, logistics and supply chain.
Our programs help high schools, technical schools, community colleges, universities and other training organizations to build and sustain a skilled workforce that’s in high demand throughout our entire industry.
In addition to providing educational programs and content that includes our four Fundamentals of Warehousing and Distribution textbooks, and co-sponsoring Student Days at MODEX and ProMat, we also facilitate donations of technologies and equipment for students to use.
Through MHI’s Equipment Donation Program, managed by MHI’s Career & Technical Education (CTE) program, we help these schools obtain material handling equipment for their working labs, classrooms and training facilities. Having access to real-life systems in onsite learning laboratories allows them to gain hands-on experience that is highly valued by prospective employers.
Because of our connections to both schools and equipment suppliers, we often act as a matchmaker. We invite schools to request the technologies that would benefit their curriculum by enhancing their current facilities, or to equip newly constructed warehouses and learning labs.
Currently, two programs have formal requests on file with the program: one from the Olive-Harvey Community College’s new Transportation, Distribution and Logistics (TDL) working lab in Chicago; and another from the Patterson Joint Unified School District to outfit its business logistics technical training WWMH Donation at Greater Altoona Career and Technical Center program’s new 6,000-square-foot warehouse in Patterson, CA.
