Gender Equality and the Future

This article from the NY Times addresses gender equality and why it has “stalled out” over the past 20 years. Research suggests that it is due mostly to lack of flexibility in the workplace. With all of the technology that has developed over the past few decades most people still work the regular 9-5 job  – just as they did in the 50s & 60s.

Due to the lack of flexibility many people who decide to have families must sacrifice one parent’s job. And, because the woman, on average, is paid less, they are the ones who cut back or quit.

I found this article fascinating. It really made me think about the benefits of having a family-friendly workplace.

Does your company have any interested or forward-thinking policies that help you juggle work & home?
