Material handing pioneer Joseph Sedlak passes at 90

Joseph A. Sedlak, industry pioneer and founder of Sedlak Management Consultants Inc., passed away on September 9th at age 90.

Mr. Sedlak founded the company in 1958 based on his design of warehouse garment handling systems a for apparel manufacturer Bobbie Brooks. The firm was one of the first material handling and warehousing consulting companies.

Mr. Sedlak’s collaboration with conveyor company Rapistan Conveyor led him to develop high-speed unit sortation systems for catalogers and specialty retailers.

In its 55th year, Sedlak Management Consultants remains privately owned by second-generation family—Sedlak’s son-in-law, Jeffrey Graves, and sons, Ned Sedlak and Patrick Sedlak.
