New College Program
This article from the Huffington Post talks about a new program at Ivy Tech – Indiana’s state community college. They offer a program called The Associate Accelerated Program (ASAP), a one-year accelerated associates degree. The program allows students to complete their degree in one year debt-free.
Guidelines are:
- Referred/Nominated by High School Guidance Counselor
- Minimum 2.5 High School GPA and strong attendance record
- No older than 21 years of age
- Parent/guardian must agree to provide room and board
- Full application must be submitted by March 15
- Student and parent/guardian must complete the pledge form
This is a huge departure from current 2 and 4 year degree programs but they are seeing a lot of success according to the HP article, “69 percent finished within a year, according to ASAP. Across the United States, in comparison, just 58 percent of students who start college at a two-year public institution complete any postsecondary degree within six years, according to data from the National Student Clearinghouse Research Center.”
Pretty impressive.
