New Conveyors 101 Guide Available from CSS

By Alex Batty, MHI Marketing Communications Coordinator |@mhi_alex

Hey hey! So our Industry Groups (if you don’t know what those are, check out the Industry Group website, they’re awesome!) are producing content that you need to see.

For example, the Conveyor and Sortation Systems (CSS) group has recently released “Introduction to Conveyors and Sortation Systems,” basically Conveyors 101 – and it’s pretty cool.

The purpose of this handy dandy little guide is summed up in the intro:

This handbook provides an overview of the different types of conveyors and sortation systems. Its purpose is to give an introduction into different applications, advantages, and disadvantages of conveyor and sortation systems.

I’ll be honest: this is not my typical reading material. In fact, when I was asked to do a little write-up on it my brain made sad kazoo noises because I was not looking forward to reading some dry technical document.

But this document was actually super interesting to me. As someone who has a background in the humanities… me no understand math, and therefore machine-things tend to be foreign objects. However, this was a simple, clear way to understand the differences between available systems. I didn’t even know there were so many options. All conveyors (and sortation systems) are not created equal and have different functions for different purposes. That’s pretty… heroic.

(Okay, so the metaphor was not well set up. You got me, I just wanted to use those gifs, but seriously, the multitude of different functions that conveyors/sortation systems serve is pretty cool.)

Whether you’re a newb to the industry or just looking for some clarification on which system is best for you, go ahead and check out this intro guide. You might just find you’ll have learned something new today.

You can read the document here or find it on the CSS page at mhi.org/css.
