Our Industry and Millenials

An article recently appeared in Logistics Viewpoints about Millennials and the Supply Chain. The article discusses how the Millenial generation can be key to boosting this industry and making it better.

One quote states, “There is a lot that the supply chain industry can teach Millennials, but there is a lot that they can teach us. Millennials should be encouraged to be part of the supply chain and organizations that embrace their profile will ultimately benefit. Yes, those organizations need to be open to new styles of thinking and executing, but that is what growing is all about.”

It also goes on to say that the Boomer generation will be aging out very soon and Millenials will be the majority of the workforce and therefore, companies must adjust to a new way of thinking. Saying Gen Y is “lazy” and ignoring them will not work. Maybe redefining what “lazy” means will help. Is working from home “lazy” or is it just a new way of doing business? These questions need to be addressed and answers need to be found  – very soon.

At the MHI Annual Meeting next week we will address this very issue. On Tuesday, October 1 we will have speakers from Bridgeworks discuss the “New Generations – How to Attract them and How to Keep Them.” I’ll be sure to take notes and report back.
