Steel King Makes Rack Donation to Help Community Through COVID-19
MHI member companies are among the leading suppliers in manufacturing and supply chain and with the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, many of these companies have been doing amazing things to better the safety of our citizens and the security of our economy.
This week we spoke with MHI member company Steel King Industries about their recent racking donation and how this is making a difference in the lives of others during the COVID-19 pandemic.
When a volunteer at Operation Bootstrap contacted Steel King with a racking donation request, they were more than willing to give support. Operation Bootstrap is the principal food bank for Portage County (where Steel King is headquartered) and feeds almost 545 people a day through referrals from social service agencies, community organizers, and school workers.
With the onset of COVID-19, unemployment rates have increased causing an increased demand for Operation Bootstrap’s services. Supply shortages for several essential products such as toilet paper, laundry detergent, and dish soap have also surged. The organization realized they would need to order these items in larger amounts and store them in their facility in order to have supplies readily available for the community they serve.
There was only one problem, lack of storage space. Operation Bootstrap was limited to horizontal storage and did not have the space to store more products. Steel King was able to solve this problem by donating thousands of dollars’ worth of SK2000® pallet rack and wire mesh decking. The new racking allowed Operation Bootstrap to utilize vertical storage in their warehousing therefore greatly maximizing their ability to store more essential products.
Steel King was able to oversee the process all the way from order placement to installation in a matter of 3-4 weeks.
