Sustainability & Supply Chain: Is Your Supply Chain Traceable?

by Sterling J. Scott, Marketing Communications Coordinator, MHI | @mhi_sterling

Supply chain traceability is becoming increasingly important as more companies seek to meet regulatory and consumer demands that goods are sourced and produced responsibly.

The United Nations and BSR released “A Guide to Traceability: A Practical Approach to Advance Sustainability in Global Supply Chains” to help businesses work to ensure that their products do not aide in conflict or human rights abuses. Very few products can be traced based on sustainability and the Guide seeks to remedy that. The 45-page Guide defines and discusses traceability and its importance, outlines traceability models and best practices, as well as details the benefits of successful implementation. Companies worldwide can use the Guide to develop strategies for implementing supply chain traceability solutions.

The material handling, logistics and supply chain solution providers that are members of MHI can help in developing those solutions and even provide them. It’s important for all companies to partner with industry-leading firms to ensure that their goods are traceable and ultimately sustainable.
