The Yahoo Quandary

Most of us have heard about what happend at Yahoo recently. It actually even got brought up during our webinar on the 27th (now posted online). The new CEO, Marissa Meyer has now abolished their “work from home” policy that allowed for the flexibility many employees not only appreciated but expected.

This has led to much debate about working from home, the productivity of those who work from home and the benefits of face-to-face. I believe that there are benefits to both. Oftentimes these kind of debates take sides and declare that one is right and one is wrong but I feel that there is a happy medium. I agree, you can have people slacking off at home but  you can also have the same problem IN the office. However, with good management – and supervisors that are aware and involved with their employees – that this should not be a problem whether you work from home or come to the office. I also think that there is a time and place for face-to-face meetings but I do not feel that it needs to take place every day.

Here is an article from Bloomberg on why both side of the debate are wrong.
