Training the teachers for the supply chain workforce of tomorrow

The MHI 2013 Technical Career Education Program (TCEP) recently held its Train-the-Trainer Summer Camp Event at Vincennes University in Indianapolis, IN.

TCEP provides instructional support to educational institutions seeking to provide training for entry level employees in the area of warehousing and distribution, supply chain and logistics.

Train-the-Trainer-2013-TCEP-DSC_0283Attendees from industry, high schools, community colleges and career centers/job corps from all across the country came together to learn how to train the supply chain workforce of tomorrow.

The two- day event featured:

— An interactive learning experience

— Networking between educators and industry professionals

— Tours of Amazon.com and DJO Global Distribution Centers

— Curriculum tips, tools, resources and insights

TCEP provides training so that high school and community college students, the unemployed and the under-employed can begin a career in the manufacturing and supply chain industries. The courses offered give real life experience in actual, on-campus warehouse facilities.

The program is based on input from manufacturing and supply chain employers who are looking for candidates with a certain level of training. The goal of the program is for workers to be 75% trained when they are hired and the rest will be learned on the job. TCEP is currently partnering with 40 established programs nationwide in 17 states.

TCEP is a major initiative of MHI. I encourage you to learn more by contacting Carmen Murphy or visiting the TCEP Web site
