Amazon Reveals New Drone Flight Video

Revealing what will be possible in the not-to-distant future, Amazon released a new video of one it’s drones in action.

This drone has a new more streamlined look and boasts a special square compartment for packages.

According to the video, the drone reaches a height of about 400 feet in vertical mode and then switches to horizontal mode to travel up to 15 miles away from the distribution center. During the flight, the drone uses what Amazon calls “sense and avoid technology” to avoid collisions with other objects in its flight path.

At the end of the video, the drone alights atop an Amazon logo in the yard of the customer, delivers the package and takes off in a matter of seconds.

The FAA is still looking into rules for private and commercial drone use in U.S. air space. According to Amazon, “Putting Prime Air into service will take some time, but we will deploy when we have the regulatory support needed to realize our vision.”

But, as this video makes clear, Amazon believes that Prime Air drone delivery is the future of Amazon deliveries.
