Which states are tops for manufacturing and logistics?
Eight states received a grade of ‘A’ for the health of their manufacturing industry and five are tops in logistics according to the 2013 Manufacturing and Logistics Report.
The report, produced at Ball State University and sponsored by Conexus Indiana, shows how each state ranks among its peers in several areas of the economy that underlie the success of manufacturing and logistics including:
— manufacturing and logistics industry health
— human capital
— cost of worker benefits
— diversification of the industries
— state-level productivity and innovation
— expected fiscal liability
— tax climate
— global reach
In terms of manufacturing health, Oregon, Kansas, Iowa, Wisconsin, Michigan, Indiana, Ohio and South Carolina received an A grade. Minnesota, Kentucky, Tennessee, Alabama, New Hampshire, Vermont and Rhode Island received B grades.
In terms of logistics health, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Texas earned A’s while California, Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri, Wisconsin, Michigan, Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia and Louisiana earned B grades.
Failing grades for manufacturing went to New York, Nevada, New Mexico, Alaska and Hawaii.
