Orlando! Home of Disney, Boy Bands, and the 2018 MHI Annual Conference

The MHI Executive Summit and Annual Conference is almost here! That means it’s time to start preparing for your trip to sunny Orlando, Florida. Here’s a few friendly tips based on our furious Google searching to enhance your trip.

Weather

Luckily for us, October in Orlando is when it’s supposed to cool off a little (relatively). Of course, the humidity will always be a factor (bleh), but the average highs for this time of year run around 85 degrees and the rainfall totals drop off significantly. Attire at the conference is business casual including khaki pants, slacks, and skirts, as well as short-sleeved polo shirts and long-sleeved shirts. During dinner and networking events the dress code relaxes to “resort casual”. This includes polo style shirts, sundresses, linen pants, skirts, button-up tops, nice shorts, and dresses. Excludes t-shirts, jeans, cutoffs, and tank tops. If you get the chance to explore Orlando’s wildlife, parks, or other outdoor attractions, be sure to pack sunscreen and cool attire.

Attractions

First of all, Disney, of course. Nuff said. Also home to Universal and Sea World and HARRY POTTER WORLD!!! (Several of our staff members are trying to figure out how to fit that into our trip.) But besides the Disney mecca, there’s a lil’ bit of something for everyone. If you’re into sports, there’s the Orlando Magic for basketball and Orlando City SC for MLS fans. Apparently the metal/rock/emo music scene is pretty big, and since Orlando houses several recording studios, it’s also been the launching spot for several boy bands, including NSYNC and Backstreet Boys. If you’re into space (SPACE!!!) there’s the Kennedy Space Center. Into nature? The Everglades will be your (careful) friend. You can check out a great list from Trip Advisor with the top things for 2018.
