Career Tips for YPs
I came across this article about career tips for young professionals today and while it seems really basic – it is really true. I know when I first came out of college I made quite a few missteps. I especially believe in “dressing for the part” – I’m sure most of you have heard the saying, “Dress for the job you want, not the job you have.” I didn’t believe it at the time, but there is probably not a truer statement.
This tip applies to young professionals more than anyone. I know that means going to the store and maybe spending money you don’t have but it is worth it! You are already looked at as young, inexperienced and probably disregarded for the most part. If you dress to impress, it not only makes you look more professional, but also older and it gives the impression that you care about your job.
This article focuses on women dressing the part. Women probably are judged more harshly (particularly when they are younger) and dressing professionally goes a lot farther for them. However, I do feel like this advice goes for both genders.
