MHEFI Invests in the Future of Supply Chain Students

The Material Handling Education Foundation, Inc. (MHEFI) is now accepting applications for its 2024/2025 academic scholarships. MHEFI is a charitable organization that was founded in 1976. It helps brighten the future of the material handling, logistics, and supply chain industry by reducing financial stress for students pursuing a career in the industry.

MHEFI Scholarship Requirements

Do you know a student deserving of a scholarship? MHEFI has launched a call for scholarship applicants with a deadline of January 31, 2024. Students from the following target programs are encourage to apply:

• Industrial engineering
• Industrial distribution
• Mechanical and electrical engineering
• Structural engineering with a focus on cold-formed steel design
• Computer science related to material handling
• Business and management related to material handling or supply chain management
• Imaging and camera-based vision systems, LIDAR sensors, and RADAR sensor technologies
• Engineering technology

Applying for a scholarship is not a challenging task; students will just need to complete a few steps to make a good impression. The first step is to get a recommendation from a professor, advisor, or employer. To request the nomination and learn more about the exact scholarship requirements, students can visit mhefi.smapply.org.

In the application, students will need to explain why they are choosing a career path in the material handling, logistics, or supply chain industry. They will also need to explain why they are a good candidate for the scholarship.

Meet a Few Recent Scholarship Winners

Currently, 56 students are supported by the $200,000 MHEFI awarded in scholarships for the 2023/2024 academic year.  The selected students have shown extraordinary leadership skills and academic excellence. Let us introduce you to a few of the recipients:

Skyla A. Rijos is a senior at the University of Illinois at Chicago pursuing a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering. Skyla discovered her passion for engineering when she joined her school’s project lead-the-way classes. While attending college, Skyla has served as secretary for the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers and as a peer mentor for the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. Skyla has been awarded the $2,500 Solutions Community Honor Scholarship by MHEFI for her strong work ethic and passion for industrial engineering.

David Hinkle is a rising senior at Lehigh University majoring in supply chain management and minoring in data science and computer science. David has strengthened his leadership skills by serving as president of the Lehigh Supply Chain Management Club and manager for the Lehigh Women’s NCAA Volleyball Team. David made a perfect candidate for the $5,000 MHEFI Honor Scholarship due to his career goals as well as his academic and leadership accomplishments.

Jaeda Berkemeier is a senior at Indiana University pursuing a bachelor’s degree in business and management, with a concentration in supply chain management, business analytics, and sustainable business. Jaeda has served as chief officer of professional development for Women and Company, a team member for the Supply Chain Consulting Practicum, and associate director of membership logistics for Alpha Kappa Psi Co-ed professional fraternity. Jaeda’s many accomplishments resulted in her being chosen by MHEFI for the $5,000 Howard Bernstein Scholarship.
