Georgia Ports Authority Reports Record Breaking Month

Georgia Ports Authority (GPA) released a press release yesterday announcing that they had a new record month for container volume.

Which is super cool.

We’re going throw some numbers at you real quick, so be ready.

350,104 – The number of twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) handled by the GPA in May.

1676 – The number of vessel calls between July 2016-May 2017 in Garden City Terminal.

13000+ – The number of TEUs the two big new ships that landed in Port of Savanah are rated at.

So these record breaking numbers were accomplished with no congestion or operational issues. This gives customers increased confidence in Georgia’s ports, reports GPA Executive Director Griff Lynch. He continues, “This proves the GPA can simultaneously serve larger vessels and greater volumes while providing the excellent logistic solutions our customers have come to expect.”

Why are we sharing? Because MODEX 2018 is in Atlanta and is an intermodal show, which means shipping is a part of that. And as my colleague Greg Baer (@GBaerGreg) put it: All ports lead to MODEX.
