Holiday Hiring Roundup

Major companies are starting to announce their holiday/seasonal hiring, so we thought we’d give you the rundown all in one place.

UPS

UPS expects to hire around 95,000 people to fulfill multiple roles in the weeks surrounding the holidays. CEO David Abney says that “If you are a student, a working mom or just looking to make extra money for the holidays, we have a job for you.” As a reminder, UPS will also be implementing surcharges for the upcoming season.

FedEx

FedEx is planning on bringing 50,000+ temp workers, as well as offering extra hours to current employees.

Both shippers took care to emphasize that many seasonal positions turn into full-time jobs.

Amazon

Amazon has announced that they will be opening up more than 120,000 positions for the season in 33 states and plans to transition “thousands” of those to full-time jobs. Target

In order to compete with Amazon and Walmart, Target plans to hire 100,000 temp employees for the holiday season. These employees will help ensure that shelves are always stocked and work to fulfill online orders. You can apply at TargetSeasonalJobs.com.

In addition, Target is planning on hiring an addition 4,500 seasonal workers at distribution and fulfillment centers.

Walmart

Walmart isn’t planning on hiring extra employees, just offering extra hours during the holidays, which is the same approach they took last year. It remains to be seen if those extra hours will be optional or not.

Macy’s

Macy’s is hiring fewer workers this season that it usually does, but those workers that it does hire are going to be focused on fulfilling online orders. The plan is to hire about 80,000 workers and 18,000 of those are going to be dedicated to online fulfillment.
