MHI Industry Groups Update

As we head into the tail end of the year, we thought we’d give you an update on some of what our Industry Groups have been working on.

The Fire Code Action Council recently released new suggested language for fire codes. However, when the community review the language, they spotted potentially hazardous consequences. The AS/RS (Automated Storage/Retrieval Systems) group worked with ASG (Automation Solutions Group) general members and other users to persuade the Fire Code Action Council to disapprove the language and keep people safe. For more on the topic, an article in the Q1 2017 edition of MHI Solutions magazine written by Patrick Davison of MHI will delve deeper into the subject. To read past editions and check out the latest edition when it releases, go to mhisolutionsmag.com. To subscribe to the print or digital edition of MHI Solutions, please email Carol Miller (cmiller@mhi.org) and include your full name, address and email address.

As a part of the Business Planning Community benefits for members, Jason Schenker will be giving a webinar free to members that will discuss the potential economic impacts of the 2016 US presidential election. The webinar will be held Monday December 5 at 2pm EST. You can login to the Business Planning Community portal to register and attend the webinar.

We’ve been reaccredited! ANSI conducts periodic audits on organizations that provide standards, and our audit was closed on November 15 and a Notice of Reaccreditation granted. We’re continuing to work hard to provide safety standards to push material handling forward and keep people safe. One of our groups, MMA (Monorail Manufacturers Association) is working on a new standard, MH27.2 on enclosed track monorail systems that has been approved by the canvass committee for recirculation; the comments from recirculation are back at MMA and working on finalizing the resolutions.

Random bits and bobs from some of our groups: AGVS (Automatic Guided Vehicle Systems) presented at Pack Expo International and made some great connections. ProGMA (Protective Guarding Manufacturers Association)has adopted the tag line SAFER by DESIGN, so look for that to keep popping up and work as a guiding value for the group.
