Recommended Equipment for Soft Product Storage & Transport

The term “Material Handling” covers a wide range of product types, sizes, and shapes. Some products are easy to store, transport, and package while others are more difficult. One item that is particularly tricky to store and transport is soft product which isn’t contained in its own shape or package. Unconfined liquids, raw food products, and linens are examples of these products. They have their own challenges when it comes to handling and carting them throughout a facility. There are three recommended categories of equipment that are designed to solve these specific challenges.
Lug Dollies
When determining which lug dolly to choose, a good starting point is determining how many lugs should be carried by one dolly. In addition, it’s important to know the overall product weight the dolly is expected to transport. This will determine the overall construction; stem casters or plate casters, how many lugs wide and high are needed, and if the lugs should be supported by their lips or bases. Lug Dollies are designed to be used with standard 15 ½” x 25” lug tubs. There are different duty requirements depending on their use. Lug dollies are ideal for use in meat processing, bussing, and anywhere using smaller quantities of loose product per containment unit.
Bulk Carts
Bulk Carts are larger than Lug Dollies and hold one tub ranging from 16.5 gallons to 66 gallons in size. All bulk carts are base supported to hold large, heavy quantities of loose product while loading, unloading, and carting. Bulk carts typically sit lower to the ground allowing users to have access over the sides of the tub without excessive bending or reaching. These carts are perfect for bulk meat processing, smaller laundry needs, and transport of raw ingredients such as nuts, flour, sugar, liquids, and oils.
Mega Movers
Mega Movers are utilized for the biggest, heaviest loads and are designed to accommodate tubs up to 170 gallons. Mega Movers are low profile frames with heavy-duty plate casters and can hold up to 1500 lbs. These behemoths are designed for the needs of the largest raw ingredients facilities and those that need mega capacity for laundry service. Mega Movers are used in various segments by pairing them with collapsible bins for auto parts, machinery, other large products, and small parts picking.
