REI and Sustainability – Sessions at ProMat 2017
So if you didn’t know, REI built this super cool new distribution center that has won all sorts of awards and is just… cool. We actually did a post on it last year, which you can read here, but the update is that they’re coming to ProMat to talk about it!
As part of our new Sustainable Facility Solutions Theater at ProMat, REI will be presenting two sessions in the North Hall.
On Monday, April 3, Rick Bingle, who is the VP of Supply Chain, and Bill Best, who is the Divisional VP of Supply Chain Operations, from REI will be presenting a seminar on Sustainable Distribution Center Design. Their little blurb says:
“When REI made the choice to build the most sustainable distribution center in the world, they also committed to sharing how it was done. The integrated design approach created a unique collaborative approach that stretched the imagination of what was possible. Whether challenging the energy modelling of MHE to scale the solar system or challenging what employee comfort means in a desert environment REI and their partners overcame the obstacles and achieved the design goals. REI is committed to open sourcing of the facility design and will share how a vision became reality.”
You can catch it from 2:00 PM – 3:00 PM in the Sustainable Facility Solutions Theater (North Hall).
Then on Tuesday (April 4) in the morning you can hear about how they not only wanted to build a high sustainability facility, but also to move forward with digital supply chain and omni-channel distribution. The seminar will touch on the fact that:
“REI’s vision for their new facility in Arizona extended beyond sustainability and asked “What if technology could enable picking and order assembly in one-touch?” REI then identified partners who were energized by the challenge and pursued the solution. REI will review how this vision became real in Arizona by integrating mature technologies in a new way that resets the notion of omni-channel distribution.”
