Happy World Standards Day 2016!

Did you know today is World Standards Day? World Standards Day was launched in 1970 and is recognized and celebrated by nations around the world. The holiday celebrates the important role of stakeholders across the entire standards community including business leaders, industry, academia and government.

Today the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) honor World Standards day through an event called U.S. Celebration of World Standards Day 2016 in Washington, DC. This year’s theme is “Standards Build Trust”. When explaining this theme ANSI says:

“A product or service conforming to an international standard represents a trusted symbol of quality, safety, and compatibility. Most of all, standards—developed through a process that is balanced, open, and transparent—help engender trust among the people, businesses, and governments that have placed their confidence in the standardization process.” – ANSI

Standards and conformity work behind the scenes to ensure everyday life works. Everything from tech gadgets, home and office products, services that fuel the global economy and protect health safety, rely on standards and conformance for security. What product do you use and trust everyday? Chances are that product follows strict standards put in place to protect your safety, health and overall well being.
