The top three barriers facing the next generation of supply chain professionals

Found this article from Supply Chain Management about the top 3 barriers facing young professionals in the supply chain industry. He identified the following:

1. The Image Gap – young people don’t know about or understand the supply chain/logistics/material handling industry. Material Handling? What is that?

2. Education & Entry Points – the opportunity to learn about this industry through schools. MHI is trying to address this need through their program – Technical Career Education Program (TCEP) that aims to help high school and community colleges start or effectively run technical programs within their schools.

3. The definition of job function – before ever entering the workforce, young professionals need to understand what will be required of the job function they are seeking. The industry is very broad and by feeling like you don’t know what you will be asked to do or to know makes it a very daunting field to enter.

How do you feel about these 3 barriers? Do you feel there are others? What things do you hear from your peers about the industry?
